Dear Friends and Customers,
Thank you for your loyal patronage and support over the last seven years! After much consideration we have decided to close our brick and mortar store. Because of our love for all of you, we want you to understand our reasons. We have hundreds of small reasons but here are a few of the major ones.
In April our old wood barn burned down. You may have seen pictures of our barn on the Twill social media over the years. Housed in our barn was our family’s entire landscape business. We have a huge job ahead of us to rebuild the business, deal with insurance, build a new barn etc. We also have to make repairs to our home—replace our garage roof, some melted siding and broken windows. We are grateful no one was hurt! Our local emergency personnel did an amazing job containing the fire and saving our garage and home. We are very grateful! it’s going to be a huge job to rebuild and I need to be available for that.
Over the last couple of years I have developed increasingly bad back pain. Standing at the counter, receiving, stocking and staging inventory has become problematic and painful. I need time to pursue back treatment and physical therapy to function without chronic pain. We are putting together a treatment plan and have hope and faith in a pain free future for me, but it’s going to take some time.
We are in a difficult economy and sales have slowed. We totally understand that so many are struggling with a challenging economy after Covid. One the other side of the equation, prices have escalated for stock, shipping, and other business costs. The business can’t support more staff to take over all my duties, plus the rising cost of doing business.
I’ve fulfilled my dream! As a tiny girl, playing “store” was my favorite thing to do. I’ve always dreamed of having my own store (although I had no idea how much work it would be:). It has been a joy and pleasure to put my dream into action! I did it and I’ve had an amazing seven years. I’m so grateful I had the opportunity to fulfill my dream of a brick and mortar store.
Our lease is ending at the Twill Cottage location. Now seems like the perfect time to re-evaluate and make changes. Technically our lease ends in January. We will be doing sales to cover the cost of our lease for the six or so remaining months. Between my back pain and building a new barn it couldn’t wait until January.
Looking to the future, I will take some time to help re-build our family landscape business, focus on my health and then put Twill Cottage back into action in some form. We are already playing around with a few options like a mobile store in a truck (kind of like a food truck but with candles and decor). Another option would be setting up in an antique mall type of place. We are looking forward to exploring all the options. We will keep you posted on social media and email. We will take a 6-12 month break and then jump back in. We look forward to seeing you again then.
We aim to close the doors at the end of June or the beginning of July.
It has been an amazing seven years! Thank you for all your support, encouragement and love! We are excited to see what the future holds for Twill Cottage! I wish you all the best!
With gratitude,
Deb
